Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hotel Zur Wiener Staatsoper offers a delightfully old-fashioned atmosphere right in the heart of Vienna. The room rates here are amazingly low for a hotel with such charm and quality of accommodations. Whereas most inexpensive hotels are rather bland outside, the Zur Wiener Staatsoper’s façade is exceptionally attractive, with a baroque plaster design enhancing the front door above which jaunty flags of many nations wave in the breeze. A filigree wrought-iron door leads into the gilt and crystal lobby area where your hostess, Claudia Ungersbock, (who has taken over management from her parents who operate another hotel in the city) extends a personal welcome. The hotel faces onto a pedestrian street, so quiet prevails in the high-ceilinged guestrooms. Delicate flower-print wallpapers, matching curtains, crystal chandeliers, and reproduction white furniture create a fresh, feminine feeling in the bedrooms, all of which have a private bathroom, television, and telephone. There is no restaurant at the Zur Wiener Staatsoper: only buffet breakfast is served. Just off the reception, the breakfast room is pretty and inviting, with rose-toned tapestry chairs and old prints on the walls. Take advantage of the marvelous location of the Zur Wiener Staatsoper (midway between the Opera House and the Cathedral) and go on foot to visit the many nearby coffeehouses and tempting shops along the Kärtner Strasse.
