Landgasthof Linde Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Landgasthof Linde

The 16th-century Landgasthof Linde is an extraordinary hotel that provides one of the best values in all of Austria. This small inn is best known as a restaurant but also offers five exceptionally attractive guestrooms. The Landgasthof Linde is a handsome white-stucco building with red shutters. For many generations the Ebster family has managed the hotel with loving care and attention to every detail. Son Hannes is the talented chef and his gracious wife, Christina, greets guests and helps out in the restaurant. You enter into a reception hall where a painted armoire, antique chests, fresh flowers, vaulted ceiling, and cozy, stuccoed fireplace create an ambiance of warmth and welcome. The authentic nature of the beautiful old structure speaks for itself—nothing has been overly renovated, only enhanced. If you peek into the immense commercial kitchen to the right of the hallway, you will instantly recognize that the restaurant is a serious business, serving first-rate meals that attract guests from far and near. The dining room is stunning, just oozing old-world charm with wooden floors accented by Oriental carpets, Tyrolean-style chairs, pretty floral curtains, antique paintings, and a low ceiling richly paneled in wood. Upstairs the five guestrooms are decorated with gentle taste. No two are alike, yet each is cheerful and pretty, with colorful fabrics, sweet prints on the walls, and fluffy down comforters.

We are a family of four (including 2 boys, who were 3 1/2 and 8 at the time of our trip)and two grandparents. We stayed at Landgasthof Linde for 4 nights in 2005. After the bustle of some of the larger Austrian cities, the lovely town of Stumm and Landgasthof Linde became the highlight of our 17-day Austrian adventure. The inn was sooooo charming, and the food was some of the best we’ve had anywhere in decades. Our stay was perfect in almost every way. We can’t wait to return, hopefully in 2010! (I should note that the only little glitch turned out to be that some of the rooms span 2 floors, with sleeping on the upper floor and the bathroom on the lower floor. This was a problem for my mother-in-law who has a bad knee. Fortunately, our hosts were able to switch her to a different room that was contained on a single floor for nights 2-4.--DJ

Landgasthof Linde in Stumm am Zillertal was unbelievable! Stumm is an ideal location from which to explore the entire Zillertal. Close proximity to Innsbruck for an easy day trip...Even better, the enchanting town of Schwaz is only a 20 minute drive. And Landgasthof Linde is sensational.

The food was the some of the finest we’ve had anywhere in Europe. Owners Hannes and Christina Ebster were not only gracious, Hannes personally hefted our luggage up four flights of stairs to our room. He is not only a talented chef, but a chef in incredibly great shape! (One caveat that should be noted for your readers: While stairs a common in many "charming" European hotels, here and -- especially -- at Gasthof Zauner in Hallstatt and Hotel Sanger Blondel in Durnstein, the stairs are "Hurculean" in nature.)

The historically-ambiant restaurant serves the most outstanding meals, courtesy of owner/chef Hannes Ebster who makes incredibly creative and delicious meals based on Austrian cuisine. Service is graciously provided by a warm, helpful staff. Christina Ebster, co-owner and wife of chef Hannes, personally and professionally ensures that everything is to the diners’ satisfaction. They have an excellent wine list and the wine service is also top-notch.We were so fond of our stay at Landgasthof Linde, we purchased a knoedel cookbook featuring our host. Although the book is only available in German, it is a perfect reminder of this exceptional place. And Hannes autographed it to us. How special!

Landgasthof Linde is a gem of a place. I’d rate it a 5 with the only caveat being for people who have difficulty with stairs.   Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! (Or should I say "Wunderbar!"
