Karen's Review Of This Property:
The delightful Hotel Gruber has the honor of being the smallest hotel in Austria holding a four-star rating. It is quickly apparent why, for this little inn offers amenities usually found only in much larger establishments, while providing the personal service and warmth found only in family-run hotels. The owner, Franz Gruber, trained at Cornell University and spent 20 years working with deluxe hotels before returning to Austria where he and his wife, Erika, built a small chalet-style inn. Carved wood and attractive floral fabrics create a mood of old-world charm. The cozy breakfast room is delightfully appealing with its light wood-paneled walls, carved wood ceiling, Tyrolean-style chairs, pretty print fabrics, colorful plate collection, and a wonderful green, antique-style ceramic stove. Here guests enjoy a bountiful breakfast where everything comes fresh from a nearby farm. The guestrooms continue the motif of light wood and attractive floral fabrics and are very comfortable, with built-in headboards with excellent reading lights and fluffy down comforters. My favorite rooms are those in the back that overlook a small stream meandering just below. Breakfast is the only meal served but coffee, cake and applestrudel are available throughout the day and there is a rich selection of places to dine just a short stroll away. The prices listed below are for the summer season. The Hotel Gruber offers superb value and makes a convenient base for hiking or skiing.
