Hotel Tennerhof

The Hotel Tennerhof is an idyllic hotel snuggled in the foothills of the mountains, just outside Kitzbühel, one of Austria’s most picturesque walled villages. The location is terrific, tucked on the hillside, across from the ski lifts, close enough to walk into town and yet far enough removed to feel as though you are in the country. If you come in summer, the appealing chalet-style exterior is as pretty as a picture postcard, with balconies draped with geraniums. Inside, the perfection continues, with lovely antiques abounding. It is, honestly, absolutely gorgeous. The decor throughout is one of sophisticated country charm. Every detail is faultless: every fabric and piece of furniture is thoughtfully chosen and perfectly placed both in the public areas and the bedrooms. I loved every room, from one of the more traditional, number 9, a standard corner room with terrace and warm rich decor against a patina of old wood—to number 16, one of the new, luxurious suites, with a fireplace and large bedroom separated by arched panel doors from a spacious corner living room with an expanse of terrace and views looking over the pool and across to the mountains. The Von Pasquali family, who owns the hotel, also meticulously oversees every phase of its management—and it shows. There are two lovely dining rooms (one of which has a one-star Michelin rating). The food is delicious. If you are on a winter holiday, the skiing is superb.
