Romantik Hotel Schwarzer Adler

The Romantik Hotel Schwarzer Adler is located just a few minutes’ walk from the pedestrian heart of medieval Innsbruck on a main street just up from the university. The inn’s history dates back to 1500 and public records verify that it has had a checkered past, performing as a coaching inn, a nobleman’s palace, a pub, and even a stable. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Schwarzer Adler has been a proper inn, continuously run by the Ultsch family. Today Sonja and Harald Ultsch (fourth generation) have taken over management of the hotel. The mood is not that of a formal, deluxe hotel, but rather one of great friendliness with a homelike ambiance throughout. The family is always present, personally seeing that the guests are pampered. The hotel rooms have been renovated and many can only be described as fanciful, such as the Versace Suite decked in black satin or the dramatic Swarovski Crystal Suite. My favorite is the Maximilian Suite. Some of the suites have open fireplaces and balconies and all of the rooms have air conditioning. There is also a reception room, lounge, and front terrace bar for guests. The romantic dining room oozes with old-world charm. Here a beamed ceiling, handsome dark-wood wainscoting, stained-glass windows, antique clocks, and copperware set a mood of elegance. There is also a superb roof terrace open in the summer and a wellness and spa center.

The charm of countless crystals in the unique Swarovski bathrooms, of a romantic Tyrolean four-poster bed, an open fire, or the sensual elegance of noble Versace designs is simply breathtaking. From the roof-top terrace in the centre of Innsbruck you can watch the chamois bucks or the skiers!
