Schloss Kapfenstein

Even among Austria’s superb selection of castle hotels, the Schloss Kapfenstein stands out as very special. After raising five children in the Schloss, gracious and beautiful Eva is responsible for renovating and converting this fortress and family home to a hotel. Two of her sons and their wives have now joined her. Her son Martin, a most talented chef, has taken charge of the kitchen while his wife, Elizabeth, helps serve and welcome guests. There is a beautiful dining room in the castle, but in summer, meals are usually enjoyed outside on a terrace that stretches along the top of the castle walls: a setting that offers a stunning panorama of rolling hills, vineyards, and quiet villages. Another son, Georg, oversees the vineyards and production of award winning wines. Be sure to visit their winery and shop. Georg and his wife, Margot, are responsible for the recent updates to the decor and the renovation of the gate keeper’s quarters (Pförtnerhaus) and the tower (Burgfried) into beautiful and architecturally stunning suites—the Von Lengheim is incredible. The Schloss Kapfenstein is a gem.
