Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Schloss Prielau is an enchanting place to stay—absolute perfection. As you drive down a tree-lined lane from the lake, the first glimpse of Schloss Prielau comes into view winning your heart. The picture-perfect castle is a happy, four-story, cream-colored building with a steeply sloped slate roof, windows embraced by red-striped shutters, and a cute turret topped by a jaunty peak. It is no wonder that this is thought to be the castle in Sleeping Beauty—it looks like it belongs in a fairy tale. When your charming hostess, Anette Mayer, first saw the sadly neglected castle, she immediately fell in love and wanted to bestow a “sweet kiss” to bring it back to life. Anette & Andreas Mayer leased the property, moved from Munich, and after a superb restoration, have reopened the castle as a deluxe, small hotel. Anette manages the hotel while her husband, honored with 2 Michelin stars, oversees the excellent kitchen. The superb antiques remain, but everything else has been changed: the walls freshly painted, gorgeous fabrics throughout, new upholstery, new draperies, new carpets, excellent bathrooms installed, and fine linens. The dining rooms and lounges on the ground floor are stunning and each guestroom a decorator dream. The choice bedrooms are those that overlook the meadow, lake, and beyond to the soaring mountains. Enjoy a sauna or massage in their “Badehaus” or relax at their private beach on the lake.
