The Romantik Hotel GMACHL has been in the Gmachl family since 1583 and is justifiably proud to boast that it is the longest established family-run hostelry in Austria—Friedrich and Michaela Hirnböck-Gmachl represent the 23rd generation! Ever present, they are a handsome and charming couple who set a wonderful example of welcome and customer service for their dedicated staff.  Rich in history and full of character, the inn was constructed in 1334 as a tavern for the Benedictine monks of the Monastery of Nonnberg; it even predates the beautiful church located adjacent to the hotel (which also belongs to the Gmachl family). At the heart of this small village, look for the onion dome of the church and you will easily find the neighboring Romantik Hotel Gmachl. The exterior of the hotel is most inviting: a soft, mustard-yellow façade with white-painted trim, flowerboxes at the windows, and a steeply pitched roof. Inside, a mood of elegant yet, rustic charm prevails. Handsome antiques decorate the intimate public rooms and lounges which are also adorned with family portraits, photographs, and memorabilia and an abundance of lovely flower arrangements. For breakfast an incredible buffet is offered in a spacious back dining room and weather permitting, guests can also settle at tables in the garden courtyard.  The Ahnenstube and Kaiserzimmer are cozy and inviting dining rooms for lunch or dinner. The menu reflects the excellence of the kitchen and service is both attentive and professional.  Dine here and enjoy the incredible ambiance as well as some of the region’s finest cuisine at an incredible value. Some of the guestrooms are in the main building, others in a lovely new and renovated house across the street. All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated with a country ambiance and great flair. Serving travelers’ needs, a farm and a butchery have always been affiliated with the inn and the tradition continues with a family-owned, intimate, sausage shop across the street from the main entrance of the hotel that is convenient should guests wish a light snack or picnic supplies.
