Thomas Mann once stood here in the beautiful salon and puffed on his cigars. Stefan Zweig enjoyed the imposing views of the mountains and the Gastein Valley, gently dropping off behind the large glass windows all the way to Hofgastein. William Sommerset Maugham unwound here, as did Lady Churchill, all of them enjoying the very special atmosphere of this house.
A house which stands 1,000 metres above sea level, alongside the Kaiser-Promenade in Bad Gastein, and yet very different from other hotels in this area: friendly, warm, comfortable. An oasis of wellbeing.
In the 1920’s, Berlin entrepreneur, Heinrich Hirt, had this building constructed, wanting to create a small spa-style hotel with its own hot springs and thirty rooms, one which was primarily intended to host paying friends. And it is precisely that same charm and elegant intimacy that Hirt had wanted to share with his friends, which the house has managed to keep to this day.
