Schlosswirt zu Anif

If you have a car you might want to consider staying only about ten minutes south of Salzburg in a 17th century country inn, The Schlosswirt zu Anif. Although, the hotel faces directly onto the main road, as soon as you step inside you feel a country ambiance. To the right of the lobby is an inviting dining room enhanced by checkered table cloths, wood planked floors, interesting old paintings on the walls, a wonderful old grandfather clock, fresh flowers on the tables and pretty girls in brightly colored dirndls serving the guests. A door leads off to a second, more formal dining room which is also designated as the non-smoking restaurant. In warmer weather, the favorite eating place is outside on the terrace where meals are served at tables under the shade of trees. Whereever you choose to dine, you will not be disappointed because this small inn is probably more famous for its excellent kitchen than for its rooms. The bedrooms, though, are most attractive and like the lounges, they are tastefully decorated in a formal, traditional Bedemeyer decor, many with antique wooden sleigh-style beds. Across the street there are additional rooms in an old wood and stucco farmhouse referred to as the Kammelbauer. A few guestrooms look out across the small lake to the inn’s namesake, the very pretty and ornate, Schlosswirt Anif. The schloss is still a private residence and is only open to the public a few times a year.

An historic inn, where Father Time doesn’t wear a watch and guests can enjoy total relaxation amid a traditional ambience. Here, on the outskirts of the “City of Mozart” and right next to the neo-gothic, lakeside Anif Castle, we discover the Schlosswirt, one of Austria’s most beautiful inns. A fact recognized by the Bishop of Chiemsee all the way back in 1240, when he procured the then building of the Schlosswirt for himself. Many things have changed through the centuries, yet the Gasthof Schlosswirt has still managed to retain its charm over the course of the years.  Which means that, even today, everyone is certain to fall in love with this truly unique inn.

Its two buildings, the Schlosswirt and the Kramerbauer, with their magical and very stylish décor in original Biedermeier design, reflect the historic character of the property. Whether in its nostalgic rooms or in the guest lounges, the Schlosswirt exudes an unbelievably beautiful and romantic atmosphere, one which is highly prized, especially as a setting for wedding festivities.

Word of the quality of this establishment has long since got around in the very highest circles, to the point that the Schlosswirt has now becoming a popular meeting place for prominent personalities. And not least due to our excellent kitchens, which have made quite a name for themselves with traditional regional specialties accompanied by select wines.

A fine wine in your hand, wonderfully fragrant dishes on your table, the rustling of chestnut leaves on the trees and the warming Salzburg evening sun in your face.  Suddenly, you understand why Father Time has no watch – he has absolutely no need for one!
