Schloss Rosenau:
The Schloss Rosenau stands at the center of a beautiful group of soft-yellow, regal buildings set on a green hillside backed by forest. The castle wraps round a graveled courtyard and at its heart is a gorgeous, ornate chapel. Its walls guard the secret meeting rooms of the Order of the Freemasons, now a museum dedicated to their humanitarian endeavors and accomplishments. The reception desk for both the hotel and the museum is to the right of a lovely entryway, while off to the left you find a cozy dining room with built-in benches and tables dressed in rusts, greens, and golds. Tables are also set for lunch on the garden terrace with its peaceful views over the countryside and a small lake. There is a more formal dining room at the back of the building that is also used for weddings and private functions. Room 18, a little larger, is very dramatic in dark, old antique furnishings. A theme of roses prevails: roses are found throughout and in the graveled courtyard is a fountain flanked by four impressive rose bushes.

Schloss Rosenau
The freemason castle at Rosenau, known far beyond the borders of Austria, is home not only to a famous museum but also to one of Lower Austria’s most stunning castle hotels;
When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart embarked on his famous journey to Prague, reliable historical sources say that he altered his route in order to travel via Schloss Rosenau. Amadeus, a passionate freemason, wanted to visit his fellow masons there, they having founded a freemasons’ lodge in the heart of the Waldviertel region at the castle of Count Schallenberg in the 18th century.
In 1593, Rosenau was first expanded into a renaissance castle, undergoing further remodeling and growth 150 years later, based on plans drawn up by the famous baroque architect, Munggenast. Rosenau owes its current appearance to restorations conducted in the 80’s. Margit Zulehner, the current owner of Rosenau, makes every effort to preserve for the future this jewel of the baroque and its valuable art treasures, all of which have been entrusted to her care. Together with her team, she is the perfect host for her guests’ romantic getaways, relaxing holidays, successful seminars incorporating state-of-the-art technology, as well as stylish festivities held in a tradition-rich setting;
Getting married at Rosenau has a special flair all its own. After the ceremony in the castle church, guests are awaited by a festive wedding banquet, after which the happy couple plants its own rose bush in the Wedding Garden, before withdrawing to spend their wedding night on a four-poster “bed of roses”. The stylishly romantic hotel suites couldn’t be more inviting places to dream, stay and reside. Enjoy hours of tranquility and togetherness during our “You & I: time for one another” package. True treats from our kitchens and cellars are certain to thrill gourmet palates beneath the romantic vaulted ceilings of the castle.
Sports fans will find nearby opportunities for golf, horseback riding and tennis. And when it is time to relax, guests can look forward to our tastefully revitalized wellness area, which also features an array of massage and beauty services.
