California

Shasta Cascade

Overview:

The Shasta Cascade region of Northern California is often overlooked by the out of state tourist. After all, there is only so much time to experience everything else California has to offer. This region is a well-kept secret that many Californians don't ever know about. You will not find elegant, luxurious resorts that are a destination themselves but you will find some charming bed and breakfast inns and small older hotels oozing with character. This region is vast, covering nearly 20% of California's territory. The geography ranges from volcanic, Lassen Peak is considered an active volcano, to heavily forested. The area includes seven national forest areas as well as numerous other parks. The region is home to some of the major rivers and lakes of California including the Sacramento, McCloud and Trinity Rivers as well as Shasta Lake, Trinity Lake, Eagle Lake, Lake Almanor and Lake Siskiyou. Given the abundant rivers and lakes it is no wonder most of the regions activities center around the aquatic. Fishing, swimming, water skiing, rafting and house boating on Lake Shasta all popular activities in the Shasta Cascade region.
