California
North Coast
Overview:
The North Coast of California elicits the image of lounging in a bed and breakfast inn or small hotel with a good book in front of a crackling fire with a view of the ocean during a fierce storm coming off the ocean. Add in some crab, fresh sour dough bread and a glass of wine and life doesn't get much better. While this is one way to enjoy the North Coast there is a great deal more. The coastal area is famous for its natural beauty from its rugged coastline to the majestic, towering Redwood Trees that spawned a generation of lumber towns and mills. Our itinerary 'North from San Francisco, almost to the Oregon Border' takes the coast through the towns and hamlets such as Gualala, Elk, Albion, Mendocino and Fort Bragg then jogs inland to the victorian gem of Ferndale and the bustling town of Eureka before concluding in the coastal hamlet of Trinidad. the itinerary also touches on the famous wine regions of the Russian River, Anderson Valley and a portion of Sonoma County. Along the way are stops to view; the redwoods of Muir Woods, the spectacular wilderness of Point Reyes and the truly awe inspiring redwoods of along the Avenue of the Giants Highway in Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
