Cooking Classes at
Il Rigo

We invite you to join us in preparing typical Tuscan dishes, like "crostini", wholesome soups like Ribollita and Pappa al Pomodoro, meat stews such as the saffron Rabbit stew, and other delicious dishes, which we then enjoy all together around the table.We prepare fresh pasta, ravioli, tagliatelle and our traditional "pici".

Every season has its fruits and its traditions that we will make use off during the preparation of our dishes.

We have 3 teachers who take turns in letting you into the secrets of Tuscan cuisine. Lorenza, the wife of Rigo’s owner, Vittorio, has given lessons both in Italy and in the United States. She speaks perfect English, and has infectious energy and enthusiasm, which are hard to match. Lorenza manages the family restaurant Degli Archi in San Quirico d’Orcia. Besides food, she is passionate about classical music and has on numerous times hosted concerts of chamber music in the family concert hall above the restaurant.

If there is anyone who does match Lorenza, it is Lorenza’s delightful daughter, Luisa, a skilled opera singer. Luisa is studying lyrical singing in Florence, but she comes back to Rigo whenever her busy schedule allows it. Luisa grew up in Rigo, knows its every stone and flower, and is, like Lorenza, passionate about cooking and about sharing her love of food. It’s no wonder: she has been assisting her mother in the kitchen even before she started to speak!

Rossella, is Rigo’s day to day chef: a native of Florence and a mother of 3, her charm is motherly warmth and an instinctive ability to make you feel instantly at home. She will not let anyone go hungry: be it Rigo’s cats, dogs, or guests, she is the Mamma, who will conjure up a plate of culinary delight even if you drop by unexpected ... Rosella does not speak English (although that does not stop her from communicating and having jokes with people of different nationalities). She is assisted by me, Rigo’s Head of Reception, Pavla.

We organize one day classes at lunch time ( 10.30 a.m.) or dinner ( 5.00 p.m.)

In each class we prepare a 3 course menu, working together for about 3 hours. At the end of the lesson, you are invited to sit at the table and enjoy the lunch or  dinner which you have prepared together with the chef.

Dinner classes are organized for a minimum of 4 persons and cost 55,00 euros.

Lunch classes are organized for a minimum of 6 people and cost 45,00 euros.

Drinks are not included.

We have a good choice of local wines and we can suggest the wine that is better for the menu we have prepared.
