Zermatt
A Karen Brown Recommendation
| Recenter Map To This Location |
Everyone has heard of Zermatt, which first gained fame in the 1800s when the British adventurer, Edward Whymper, came here and climbed the Matterhorn. At that time, Zermatt was just a sleepy village of blackened-with-age, wooden farmhouses. Some of these rustic farmhouses can still be seen, but today most have been converted to boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants, and hotels. Hiking in the glorious mountains is still a treat and the Matterhorn is as magnificent as ever. Zermatt is a pedestrian-only town, which further heightens its appeal.
