Lausanne is one of the most popular towns that dot the northern shore of Lake Geneva. The oldest part of the city, with its fabulous churches and many historic moments, lies on a crest of a hill, quite a hike up from the waterfront. Most tourists stay along the lake in an area called Ouchy, which used to be a small fishing village but now has grand hotels, lovely parks, a large marina, and a delightful lakeside promenade.
