Cassaccia

A Karen Brown Recommendation

Recenter Map To This Location

Approximately 15 kilometers beyond Stampa, you come to the village of Cassaccia, which was in the medieval times an important town due to its strategic location at the foot of the Maloja Pass. Traders on horseback stopped here before going over the mountain. Ruins of a small church stand above the village. The church was dedicated to San Guadenzio, the patron saint of Bregaglia, who (according to legend) came here in the 4th century to convert the region to Christianity and was beheaded for his efforts.
