Lucerne, which in spite of its size has the enchanting ambiance of a small town, is one of our favorite places in Switzerland. Its location, snuggled on the banks of Lake Lucerne, is stunning. The River Reuss cuts through the center of town, crisscrossed by a series of intriguing bridges. The historic heart of the city is like an outdoor museum with quaint squares, painted buildings, and a maze of cobbled streets. Ferries (including nostalgic old paddle steamers) are docked at the waterfront, waiting to take you on excursions to enjoy one of Switzerland’s most beautiful lakes.
