Segovia

Without a doubt Segovia has the most dramatic location: it is set high on a rocky promontory surrounded by the Rio Eresma and Rio Clamores. At the city’s western end is the Alcázar, with its multitude of gabled roofs and turrets rising from tall crags—the quintessential fairytale castle. The cathedral is a magnificent Gothic affair dating from 1525. The aqueduct, begun in the 1st century A.D., carried water to the town until the 19th century. It’s an excellent town for walking, shopping, and people watching from a restaurant on the Plaza Mayor.
