León—once the capital of Castilla y León—is a fascinating city dating back to the 10th century, just begging to be explored. Narrow streets spread like a maze in every direction, leading to quaint squares accented by colorful fountains. León’s most outstanding sight is its gorgeous, 13th-century Gothic-style cathedral with 125 splendid, stained-glass windows that must not be missed. Another superb edifice is the Antiguo Convento de San Marcos (Monastery of St. Mark), one part of which unbelievably houses one of Spain’s most spectacular paradors.
