Yakima is often referred to as the "Palm Springs of Washington" as it has the warmest climate in the state. Yakima is also noted for its apple and hops production. Also, just north of the city along the Yakima River is reputed to be one of the finest areas for spotting bald eagles, osprey and hawks.
