San Casciano val di Pesa

Located on a hill, the town of San Casciano val di Pesa is located at the northern edge of the Chianti Clasico region thereby establishing wine as an important factor in its economy.  Archaelogical finds have shown that the inhabitants of San Casciano date back to Etruscan times, roughly 800BC-500BC.  The large number of churches in San Casciano val di Pesa and the surrounding area is a tribute to its past religious importance and close proximity to Florence. Of interest in the town is the museum of religous art located in the Church of Santa Maria  del Gesù  Interesting nearby towns include Montefiridolfi, Greve in Chianti, Impruneta and Tavernelle Val di Pesa.
