Review Of This City:
Ragusa Ibla, together with the towns of Modica, Scicli and Noto has been part of the Unesco patrimony since 2002. These baroque towns were rebuilt after the earthquake in 1693 in the style of the time. The lower town of Ragusa Ibla was re-built after the earthquake while the upper town of Ragusa was newly built with a large ravine separating the two. The two cities were separate entities until the mid 1920’s when the were incorporated into one town. Worth a visit: Cathedral of San Giorgio, Chiesa dell’Itria, Anime Sante del Purgatorio; Palazzo Cosentini, Palazzo Battaglia; Gardens with view of the valley; good restaurants.
