Leaving Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the direction of Munich for a short distance, follow signposts for Augsburg and Oberammergau, which brings you to the little village of Ettal. You cannot miss your sightseeing destination here for overshadowing the village is the Klosterkirche (monastery) where Benedictine monks distill liqueur, although you will see not a monk nor a sign of their commercial operation. The church is an exquisite baroque riot of colorful paintings and gilded woodwork.
