Les Eyzies de Tayac. located at the heart of the Dordogne region, is considered the Prehistoric Capital of France. It was in the caves in the cliff that towers above the town where skeletal remains were found that have been identified as those belonging to men of the ice age - the Cro[Magnon man. The town has a wonderful museum, the Musée National de la Préhistoire housed in the 11th-century castle set high on the cliff beneath the overhanging rock, guarded by the gigantic sculpture of Cro-Magnon man.On the outskirts of town are two caves that you can still visit that feature both prehistoric etchings and paintings.
