As the Highway 128 leaves the sunny open fields of grapes, the sun almost disappears you enter a majestic redwood forest, so dense that only slanting rays of light filter through the trees. Upon leaving the forest, Hwy 128 soon merges with the coastal Hwy 1 (about a 60-mile drive from where you left Hwy 101). Here you join Hwy 1 going north along the coast through Albion and Little River, and then on to Mendocino. Both towns have nice lodging facilities.
