Belgium - Walloon
Waterloo
A Karen Brown Recommendation
The little town of Waterloo, once part of the French Empire is now Belgium territory and located less than thirty minutes south of Brussels. The town's name is synonymous with the famous battle that took place June 18, 1815 and Napoleon's historic defeat. This battle decided not only the fate of France and its emperor Napoleon I, but also the future of Europe, when the French army met the united armies of Britain. The battlefield is actually located about one mile (1.6 kilometers) from the town.
Each year, on the anniversary of the battle, there is a staged re-enactment of this historic battle with over 3,000 actors bringing history to life as well as fireworks and festivities!
