Erice

Recenter Map To This Location

Positioned over 750 meters above the coast (about 10 kilometers from Trapani), Erice is a delightful medieval walled town, cooled by breezes from the sea. Park your car and walk through the Porta Trapani and up the cobbled street. Erice is best discovered by exploring on foot. Narrow cobblestone streets and steep stairways form a maze throughout the town, which is so small that you cannot get lost for long. Just wander, discovering tiny old churches, picturesque squares, characterful stone houses, arcaded passageways, and shops selling the locally produced handmade carpets with colorful geometric designs. Walk to the Castello Normanno, built upon the ruins of the Temple of Venus. From the tower you have a splendid view looking over the town of Trapani and out to the sea.
