We have visited Hugh and Jane at Quinta dos Tres Rios for two lovely relaxing holidays in their beautiful home in the sun. On the first trip we arrived at the beginning of grape picking and we were able to help with all the process including treading the grapes! Each morning whist serving a delicious breakfast which included home grown fruits, Hugh and Jane were on hand to help us plan our day from relaxing in their lovely grounds to visiting the local markets, trips to Caramulo Museum, the Museum of Bread, the mountains at 6000ft where we could look towards Spain, a most memorable day in the Douro Valley and visits to the Porthouses in Porto. Our suite was excellent and we were very comforatable with wonderful views and the whole house has a unique charm. Each evening we chose to eat at the Quinta and the cuisine is excellent and very varied with home grown produce. Sometimes dinner is served inside but mostly out on the lovely large terrace. We have met many other interesting visitors and enjoyed great discussions, fun and laughter over our meals including ever flowing house wine from the vineyards. Our second visit was with eight close friends to celebrate three birthdays and it was again a great holiday.

Directions Put In By The Property:

From Porto Airport- Time 1 hour 40 Minutes-Distance 145 km / 100 Miles When you leave the airport area you have the airport on your right side and you are on a duel carriageway. Take to first turn off to the right it says PARAFITA. You join a motorway. After about 2 km keep to the left as the road splits and follow signs for A1 Porto. You pass the big Paper factory on your left and Ikea and then the container port on the right. You pass the GALP Garage on your right and then the Norte Centre on your left. Keep to the right after the under pass but NOT in the bus lane. At the end of this straight bit of road (avenue of trees) you turn off to the right and keep right sign to A1 AND LISBON. Over the bridge and then after a few miles you will get to the TOLL. Pick up ticket (do not enter the line of traffic with the white and green sign above as this is a TAG entrance). After about 30 minutes you will see signs for Viseu and Aveiro and Spain A25.Pay at the booth about 3.50€.Keep to the left immediately you leave the toll and head for Viseu. You will be heading due East. After 35 minutes you will se the sign for Coimbra and the IP3. (It also mentions Tondela) The road is a dual carriageway and then goes into a two-lane road with a heavy concrete central reservation. Over a bridge and up the hill. Look for the sign P.de Gonta and the orange Golf course sign. At the Stop sign take a left turn under the bridge and then at the 2nd Stop sign take a left turn sign to Parada de Gonta. After 1 km take the first turn to the right and up the hill and then down the hill passing two Cafes on your right and the ATM on your left. Keep on going out of the village round sharp bends. Look out for the large green gates on the right. From Lisbon Airport- 2 1/2 hours Take the A1 (Toll road) north signed posted to Coimbra and Porto. At Coimbra take the IP3 signed to Viseu. You pass two turnings to Tondela and then a further junction to Nanduf. The following junction has sign (orange) for golf course and also says P.de Gonta. At the stop sign take a left turn sign to Parada de Gonta. After 1 km take the first turn to the right and up the hill and then down the hill passing two Cafes on your right and the ATM on your left. Keep on going out of the village round sharp bends. Look out for the large green gates on the right.
