From the first morning’s breakfast Enrico came in and told us all about the area with the sweetest most charming and gentle manners, a most distinguished Italian gentleman - more like the quintessential grandfather we all dreamt of! His lady wife, the elegant Giuditta, is the cultural heart of the couple, giving us detailed descriptions of Palazzi to visit in Verona and the surrounding countryside. It helped that their cat had the same name as my daughter - Celestina - a most friendly and cuddly Siamese. At night we languished in the candlelit bathtub before being put to sleep by the gentle call of the tawny owl in the trees above the house. An unforgettable experience for those who lament the loss of virtue and good manners......
