The address says Gubbio but actually the Locanda, of ancient origins, is immersed in the wooded hills halfway between Gubbio and Perugia (each 20km away) where it once played a strategic role protecting the territory. Take the scenic road up to the group of stone houses (once an entire village with chapel) overlooking this peaceful landscape, a haven for those wanting to just take it easy. You can dine on healthy organic foods and recharge your batteries, literally immersed in noiseless nature. Furnished comfortably in Asian style, pleasantly blending in with the original stone, brick and wood architecture, gracious hosts Paola and Eric have faithfully and lovingly restored the residence, creating ten double pastel-colored bedrooms. Meals are served in the dining room or on the terrace at tables set with crisp yellow linen cloths and picture-perfect foods prepared by amiable Chef Jimmy. If guests are not out viewing the highlights of Umbria, they have given in and chosen just to relax; walking in the surroundings or lounging poolside, taking in the magical, undisturbed scenery and waiting for another spectacular sunset. Everyone seems content at this very special place and it is the owners and the setting that make it that way.
