Karen's Review Of
Pieve di Caminino:
Pieve di Caminino:
Daniela and her architect husband, Piero, brought the family’s ancient property back to life. Dating back to the 9th century the property contains a Romanesque church, now the site for concerts. The complex of stone houses is surrounded by vineyards, woods, olive groves (source of the family’s prestigious olive oil), and a garden including a collection of English roses. Five suites and two apartments are attached to the main house. Each accommodate two to five persons. Simply furnished with the family’s country antiques, wrought-iron beds, and original paintings by Daniela’s father, a renowned fresco painter. They feature living rooms with fireplace and balconies with view to either the sweeping countryside, down to the sea, or out to the woods, All the units are rented on a self-catering basis but breakfast can be provided for a fee by request. Besides a pool with spectacular views and massage treatments, painting classes are organized in May and October. Along with Siena and Montalcino, there are plenty of off-the-beaten-track sights to see organized by son, Emiliano. Bikes can be rented.

Very unique establishment. We were greated by Emy who was very warm and treated us to a glass of wine and a tour of the grounds. The grand hall was very beautiful. Unfortunately, it was the last time we saw it. Each morning and afternoon the entrance was locked. The apartment was not as clean as a typical Karen Brown pick. The hot water in the shower was turned off and required some trial and error before success. Roof leaked during a heavy downpour one night, directly on to our pillows. We had...

This is a unique place: an historic property owned, restyled and directly managed by a family of architects. We were greeted by the youngest architect, Emy, with a hearty ’Welcome’ and a glass of white wine from his wife’s family’s vineyard. Emy is a wonderful host (we will definitely be back!). It is the perfect location to lose yourself in, moreover, Emy provided great tips and insight into the local restaurants, places to visit, wine and more. We booked the Teacher’s House, impeccably restyle...
