Il Casalone

The Casalone farm estate, located between seaside resort Ansedonia and Orbetello Scalo, is a 700-acre property producing olive oil, wines, honey and the typical local breed of Maremman cows. It is in close proximity to the sea with a splendid view of Mount Argentario in the distance. Gracious Signora Marcella and husband, Giuseppe, live in the ivy-covered ancient stone tower and attached villa, while guests reside within seven comfortable self-catering apartments in a converted barn down the road. Spacious apartments have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, living/dining area, and kitchenette. Some apartments have the bedrooms on a second floor, while others have them split between the main floor and an open loft space. They are nicely appointed in a simple, cozy style, with fresh white walls, smart plaid cushions on built-in sofas, framed prints, wicker furniture, and wrought-iron beds. An alternative to sea bathing is a dip in the swimming pool, guarded by olive trees. For nature lovers, the area is full of marvelous expeditions on foot or bike, including the National Park of Uccellina, various forts on Mount Argentario, and the islands of Giglio and Giannutri, not to mention the Saturnia thermal spa.
