Palazzo dalla Casapiccola

Recanati is a remarkably well preserved town characterized by its brick palazzo. It was one of the most important papal centers and the birthplace of the 17th-century poet, Giacomo Leopardi. The native home of the poet, still inhabited by his descendants, is open to the public, and its antique library is worth a visit. The Palazzo della Casapiccola, of the same period, once hosted bishops visiting the sacred Sanctuary of neighboring Loreto. The coat-of-arms emblems still visible on walls commemorate these visits. The Dalla Casapiccola family has resided here for the past five generations, and recently restored the fascinating historic home to provide guestrooms in four very charming apartments. The rooms and suites can be combined to accommodate from 2 to 6 persons. Accommodations are tastefully appointed with original antiques, fine fabrics, updated bathrooms and kitchenettes. Three of the apartments are within the more rustic original staff quarters, while the largest is within the actual patrician palazzo with frescoed ceilings. The complex includes an ancient barrel-domed cantina where wine and olive oil were once produced. It has access to either of the main streets of town or to the formal gardens in back with views of distant hillsides.
