Karen's Review Of
Abbadia San Giorgio:
Abbadia San Giorgio:
To one side of the Church of San Giorgio in the seaside village of Monéglia is the former convent and cloister where this intimate bed and breakfast is housed. Dating back to the 1300’s the convent was dedicated to St. Francis, depicted in the painted frescoes on the walls of the cloister. The complex once included full guest quarters, infirmary and a precious library. It has been recently restored by partners Angelo and Giorgio, natives of Monéglia, who have set high standards of comfort in the eight rooms overlooking the courtyard, while maintaining the same calm and contemplative ambiance. Using the expertise of local artisans and selecting antique pieces and rich fabrics which harmonize splendidly, the romantic and luxurious results contrast with the convent’s austere past. No two of the modern bathrooms, with marble sinks and a few with hydro-jet baths, are alike. Breakfast with freshly made jams and breads is served in the small refectory. Extra services are available as your hosts also own another hotel. This property has a swimming pool and sauna which can be used, a private beach facility and a boat for excursions along the coast of the famous Cinque Terre. The scenic drive over the mountain down to the secluded village is well worth all the curves to get there.

Delightful historic inn! The breakfasts are outstanding, and the hosts and fellow guests are friendly. Right next door there’s a beautiful old church. From the Abbadia, it’s easy walking distance to excellent local restaurants and less than a five minute walk to the train that goes to the Cinque Terra villages. We hiked in the Cinque Terra, and as far as we could tell, the village of Moneglia and the Abbadia are the absolute best places to stay to explore this area. The accomodations in the ...
