La Chiocciola:
The location of La Chiocciola bed and breakfast, minutes from the main tollway from Rome to Florence and on the border of the Lazio and Umbria regions, is ideal. Added bonuses are the warm hospitality, deliciously prepared regional meals (set rate of €30), and lovely country-style bedrooms. Roberto and Maria Cristina from Rome bought the stone farmhouse dating back to 1400 several years ago and began restoration work while living in the newer house next door. The results of their efforts are six perfectly neat and spotless bedrooms and two separate private suites divided between the two houses, and a large stone-walled dining room with outdoor veranda. Obvious care and attention has been put into the decorating of the air-conditioned bedrooms with wrought-iron canopy beds, crisp, white linen curtains, and botanical prints. The scenic 50-acre property with fruit orchards and olive trees is part of the Tiber river valley and woods. A swimming pool and spa facilities are there for guests to enjoy. Innumerable day trips and itineraries of special interest are offered in the area of Umbria and Lazio and it’s a 40-minute train ride to Rome.

What a lovely place to stay! After two weeks of visiting Bologna, Florence, Tuscany, and Umbria my wife and I were ready to fly home out of Rome but we wanted to end the experience in a very special place. La Locanda is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Our room was clean and spacious and our dinner was wonderful. We found this lovely B & B in KB’s ’Charming B&B’s Italy’ and were not dissappointed. Maria Cristina is a wonderful hostess. She and her staff serve wonderful food with local products; great wine selection, warm and friendly service and excellent English. We chose one of the newer private cottages and were delighted with the room; beautiful tiled bath, large living and sleeping areas tastefully decorated.
