La Chiusa delle More

I had never been to Gargano, the "spur" of the italian boot-shaped peninsula; well, I had missed a beautiful place: the sea, the luxuriant vegetation, the history and the culture are in themselves absolutely worth a visit. On top of this, we found "La chiusa delle more": a 17th century country house, renovated in full respect of the tradition and set in the middle of a wide olive grove (you can see its extent on Google Maps) with very, very old trees. My family and I can only speak well about this place: it is within walking distance of the beach and it is on the outskirts of Peschici, that we found to be the most charming town in the region; the building is surrounded by trees and flowers and has a stunning vista on Peschici; the rooms are very confortable; even our little dog was welcomed and cared for. The sharpest and most pleasant memory, however, is the food: the owners offer a hearty breakfast and, at dinner, a wide variety of sea- and land-based dishes, all prepared with local ingredients and created with a remarkable inventiveness combined with a full respect of traditions. Needless to say, the quality of the wines is aligned with the food. By the way, the owners produce and sell oil, preserves and vegetables in oil, which can be original gifts for friends and relatives, provided you resist the urge to finish them on your own ... Finally, the friendliness of the owners is the last touch to assure a very pleasant stay. Only one warning: do not rely on this place for the winter holidays, it is open from march to september.
