Fergus View:
In 2012 Fergus View celebrates its 50th year as a guesthouse with special prices on two or three night stays, be sure to ask about these when you book. Mary and Declan Kelleher like nothing more than to share their love of the Burren with visitors. They have gone so far as to compile a most interesting booklet on the district, which details its history and points of interest. To make sure you do not go wrong they will kit you out with maps and instructions on what to do each day. Fergus View was built as a teacher’s residence at the turn of the last century and Declan’s grandfather was its first occupant. Continuing in his grandfather’s footsteps, Declan is the principal of Corofin’s primary school. The next generation of teachers is in place as several of Mary and Declan’s children are now teachers. In an evening the fire is lit in the little parlor to encourage you to make yourself at home. A hearty breakfast is the only meal served but handily there’s a restaurant in the village for dinner. Bedrooms are prettily decorated with matching drapes and bedspreads. All are of the leave-large-cases-in-the-car variety—facilities are not designed for persons of large proportions. The Kellehers also have a lovely self-catering cottage for week-long stays. The nearby Burren is fascinating, and the Cliffs of Moher are close at hand.
