Set high above the river surrounded by over three acres of grounds this grand 1840s Victorian commands an impressive position in Cobh—but the main point of interest is the fabulous interior as Pam and John spared no expense in revamping their longtime home into luxury guest accommodation. Their easy hospitality, as much as the comfort of their lovely home, is what makes Knockeven House special. Your stay often begins with tea and scones by the drawing room fire. Up the grand curving staircase you find the airy bedrooms—three have six foot beds (can also be twin), and one has a queen. Showers are large, bedrooms are wired for internet access, and TVs are available. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon is a breakfast specialty. Favorite activities are: visiting the cathedral and Queenstown Story a lively museum illustrating emigration to the US from 1845 to the 1950s; taking the ferry to Kinsale; going to Blarney to kiss the famous stone; and visiting the English market and shops in nearby Cork. John, an avid golfer, is a mine of information on local courses and happy to arranges tee times.
