Ballaghtobin

Ballaghtobin has everything: a beautifully decorated and furnished interior; acres of scenic parkland with a ruined Norman church just steps from the front door; an excellent location for exploring the Counties of Waterford and Kilkenny; and the most welcoming of owners in Mickey and Catherine Gabbett. Catherine’s flair for interior design is evident in every elegant, informal room—soft, warm pastel walls, beautiful paintings, lovely antiques—it’s very easy to settle in here. Bedrooms are absolutely gorgeous and have sparkling modern bathrooms. My favorite is the spacious Barrack Room—in years gone by, guests who drank too much at parties were sent here to sleep. Breakfast is the only meal served and for dinner guests often go to the Hunter Yard at Mount Juliet. You could really spend a week doing something totally different each day. There is medieval Kilkenny city with its wealth of historical sights; the craft trail that combines potters, leather makers, and glass blowers; golf courses from local to championship; Waterford with its historic harbor and famous crystal; and Cashel with its rock and historic abbey.
