La Garlande

Saint Clar’s market place is enclosed by charming arcaded buildings. In the center of the square stands a wonderful 13th-century covered market, officially designated as a historic monument. Also on the plaza is the old town hall: hence its name, Place de la Mairie. Nicole and Jean-Francois Cournot are a gracious, artistic couple who live in one of the buildings facing the square and when they renovated the house, they converted part of it into a bed and breakfast. You enter through an arched stone doorway into a wide hall, formerly horse stables, and ascend a stone stairway to the next floor. Nicole has tastefully decorated the guestrooms (which are in a separate wing of the house) in a charming, attractive style, using pretty Laura Ashley fabrics and wallpapers throughout. Guests are welcome to relax in a lovely salon with a marble fireplace flanked by comfortable chairs and couch. There is also a large garden in back where guests can relax. Breakfast is served in the cozy kitchen with a blue-and-white-tiled floor and country antique furnishings.
