Château de Boucéel

I have traveled throughout Europe for many years and this was the most memorable stay I can recall. Unfortunately, it was for only for one night.

I have traveled throughout Europe for many years and this was the most memorable stay I can recall. Unfortunately, it was for only for one night.

Chateau de Bouceel was not only a stately manor, it has ’history’. The owner, Regis de Roquefeuil and his wife were the most charming hosts imaginable. His family has owned the property since the Knights Templar so he has many stories to tell with real coats of arms and real family portraits from the past. Although I think his favorite stories are of his Father’s part in the French Resistance in World War II. You truly feel that you become a part of French History.

As an American I was there on July 4 and Regis, who spent time in my hometown Chicago for Medical School, gave to me a beautiful bouquet of Dark pink, blue and white hydrangeas to place on an American grave, from World War II that he personally cares for. The grave was located in a beautiful nearby American Cemetery that is dedicated to American Veterans that fought for France. It was a touching tribute for my husband and to become part of on July 4th, American’s Birthday.

The rooms were beautiful and stately and the breakfast was delicious. The other guests were also very interesting and had wonderful stories to tell of their own adventures in the world.

Nicole and I are very touched that you mentioned having gone to lay a Blue-White and Red bouquet on George Mick’s grave at the American Cemetery in Saint James. We have adopted this grave to lay flowers and I feel he is in my family.
I hope some days you come back to lay flowers again on his grave. It is partly my responsibility that he is not forgotten. My father would not have come back from Deportation without men like him and I would not be here. George Mick has given his life. What more can a man give.......
