Le Mésangeau

A long drive leads through the forest, which opens out to a sweeping expanse of lawn dominated by Le Mésangeau, a splendid stone mansion reflecting somewhat the Italian style with its stone façade and red-tiled roof. When Brigitte and Gérard bought the home, it was a disaster; but after ten years of restoration, the result is an exceptional bed and breakfast with guests’ comfort uppermost in the planning. A whole wing has been allotted to guests; which, in addition to five bedrooms, also has a large lounge with a sitting area, two billiard tables, game tables, and even a piano. All of the individually decorated bedrooms overlook the lovely back garden with its 350-year-old oak tree and have names to reflect their style of decor. My favorite, Brittany, has pretty, country antique furniture. Upon prior request, the Migons happily prepare dinner—they say it gives them the perfect opportunity to get to know their guests better. When the weather is nice, guests dine outside, otherwise the meal is served in a charming dining room with beamed ceiling and a huge open fireplace where a fire blazes on chilly days. The grounds have been transformed into a park with a small lake overlooked by a romantic gazebo. Gérard also has an incredible collection of 20 French antique cars.
