Traveler Recommendation of
Chateau de La Barre:
Chateau de La Barre:
This elegant Château has been in the family of the present owners, Comte and Comtesse de Vanssay, for over 6 centuries. Thus it is not just a luxury accommodation we enjoyed, but a real travel into time... We "experienced history" during a private visit of the chateau, before a wine and cheese tasting in the XIVth century billiard room. Over New Year's Eve, a gala dinner was hosted with all the family silver, linen and crystal in the XVIIth century prestigious dining room, and on New Year's Day, the owners had arranged a festive and authentic Renaissance lunch for us in Leonardo da Vinci's priory! A truly memorable stay in a place full of understated luxury and gracious hospitality. 5 exclusive guestrooms, all furnished with priceless antiques, lush fabrics, oil paintings. A warm welcome and a tailor made stay arranged for us. This place is a hidden gem I will return to. Daniel, New Year 2009/2010

From the minute you turn into the park and its curving road, past the gate-keeper’s lodge, past the sheep grazing under the huge old trees, and arriving at the white gravel courtyard of Chateau de la Barre you enter into a different time-space. The mere fact that this property has been owned by just one family since 1404 – that’s 606 years! – makes a stay here more than special. But that is not the main reason: it is the warm welcome of Guy and Marnie, the owners ...

Our Family Group of two adults and two teens was part of a larger family group of 20 gathered for a family reunion.
I corresponded with Marnie, the Comtesse, as we were making initial arrangements. Our group ranged in age from 12 to 84 so we had a few details to work out in the onset. She was so enjoyable to work with I felt as though I had a new friend in France.
Marnie was gracious to allow our eldest son early access to his room to study for exams. When we all arrived later in...
