I am delighted to share our recent outstanding experience at Domaine Saint Pierre de Trapel, a magnificent B&B 5 minutes from the legendary medieval city of Carcassonne in southern France. We’ve stayed in a lot of B&Bs throughout Europe and beyond and this is without doubt one of the very best – and the owners, Catherine and Christophe Pariset, are among the most charming and helpful we have ever encountered. I can’t ever remember seeing more elegant bedrooms and bathrooms, each one completely different, each one reflecting the refined taste and originality of the owners. The 200-year old former wine estate is hidden away in a beautifully landscaped park with a large pool. Nearby Carcassonne airport has RyanAir flights from Belgium, the UK and Ireland. The icing on the cake: the Parisets have spent the last 10 years exploring – and falling in love with – the marvelous wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon region and Christophe has selected a few of the best which are available to guests at the same price they would pay at the vineyard. With literally hundreds of small wine producers in the region, this is an incredibly useful service.

I arrived at St Pierre in desperate need of some peace and quiet after an exhausting period of business meetings and travel. From the moment I stepped out of the taxi after a short drive from the airport, I was overwhelmed by the welcome given to me by Mr and Mme Pariset. I was shown to a beautiful bedroom decorated in warm tones of burgundy which had an extremely spacious bathroom ensuite. Christopher and Catherine Pariset are the most charming and helpful hosts I have ever encountered. They speak very good English and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and stress free. I have stayed with them many times over the past few years and I keep coming back every year, either to stay in the B&B or in their gite on premises.
