My wife and I are writing in praise of the extraordinary B&B that is run by M. and Mme. Burckel de Tell in Calvisson, France. My wife and I are writing in praise of the extraordinary B&B that is run by M. and Mme. Burckel de Tell in Calvisson, France. We first stayed there in 2007 and were so pleased that we returned for several days in March of this year. The house has a true Old World charm, artistically renovated, with a lovely stone spiral staircase, and rooms beautifully decorated with the owner's own water colors and woven tapestries. Everything about the house reflects the exquisite taste of Régis and Corinne Burckel de Tell, he an artist and she an art historian. And the couple are, themselves, wonderful hosts and warm human beings. We have been invited to look over their personal library, my wife was invited to play their piano, and we have sat at their table and enjoyed fine, typical French meals. We have joined them for dinner and discussed both American politics and French culture, all in a comfortable way. They have been invariably helpful with restaurant reservations, the use of e-mail in an emergency situation, and even, upon our departure this year, with personal directions: Corinne ran ahead of our car for several streets to make sure that we did not lose our way as we left town. We cannot say enough in praise of Régis and Corinne Burckel de Tell and their elegant Bed & Breakfast.

Chez Burckel de Tell in Calvisson, France is enchanting. What makes it special to us is the welcome and helpfulness of the hosts, Corinne and Regis, the beauty of their historic village house, the original art, the lovely bedrooms, plus the delightful shared spaces: the breakfast room, music room, and rooftop terrace. We find Calvisson to be a village of interest and convenience, close to Nimes, Arles, Avignon, Uzes, and some fine swimming beaches.
