Karen's Review Of
Château de la Verrerie:
Château de la Verrerie:
A breathtakingly lovely Renaissance castle, the Château de la Verrerie offers the comfort and refinement of an English country home coupled with incomparable French flair for artful decoration and fine cuisine. Each guest bedroom is spacious and unique, with its own color scheme and special charm. Laguiche is a gorgeous room decorated in colors of blue and yellow and its bathroom boasts two tubs—one for the parent and one for the child. Marquise was Count Béraud’s great-grandmother’s room and it was in a small sitting alcove in the turret off her bedroom that she used to mesmerize her grandchildren with stories of old. Rooms vary in price depending on their size but they are all lovely and some of the smallest are most charming. All enjoy views out to the well-manicured lawns and gardens, which extend to nearby woods or across to the serene lake. An inviting guest sitting room combines warmth and elegance to a perfect degree. Relax in this esthetically beautiful setting, tour the historic chapel and Renaissance gallery and enjoy gourmet lunches and dinners served in the neighboring La Maison d’Helène. This restaurant, in a cozy, beamed 18th-century cottage, features regional dishes and fine wines.

Although the Chateau de la Verrerie felt more impersonal like a hotel than what we are used to at a bed and breakfast we enjoyed our stay here. The chateau is full of character and you feel as though you are stepping back in time with the enormous fireplaces and high ceilings. We had dinner both nights at La Maison d’Helene, also on the property, which was very pleasant.
