La Closerie de Gilly

La Closerie is a lovely pale-salmon-colored home offering five charming guestrooms. We were greeted warmly by Sandrine, an artist, who gave us a personal tour of her home. Just off the entry is the breakfast room, which leads to Chambertin, a pretty bedroom with a spacious bathroom and large corner tub. Climb the stairs from the entry to three more guestrooms. At the top of the first landing is my favorite, Romaneé, a very spacious room with a pair of twin iron beds set on an old creaking floor against a backdrop of very pretty floral and pinstriped paper. An enormous, handsome mirror, original to the home, dominates one wall. Views through two large windows are of the central courtyard and garden. Vougeot is a cozy room with a double bed that can connect with Romaneé next door or be accessed off its own back staircase. It also boasts a twin bed set in an alcove off the bathroom. On the other side of the hallway is Corton, a simple room with a double bed set under exposed beams which spans the width of the house. On the top floor is another favorite, Chambolle, decorated in soft yellow with a pretty floral frieze. A lovely pool is set in the garden up against the neighbor’s wall. For stays of at least one week, you might want to settle in to the charming one bedroom, garden level gîte with kitchenette.
