While traveling through Brittany, we discovered the canal barge, "Libje" moored on the banks of Nantes-Brest canal near the medieval town of Malestroit. The barge is owned by Jane and Ian Slade. During the spring and summer, they offer barge cruises along this canal, but in fall and winter, they convert the barge into a stationery B&B. We stayed there two nights and our hosts extended a very warm welcome,providing breakfast in the morning, hot tea and cookies after our day of exploring, and lots of conversation and information about the area. There are two guest cabins on board. Ours was in the bow, modern, roomy with a king size bed and a modern bathroom ensuite. We found that the location of the barge was perfect for exploring central Brittany and it’s southern coast. We highly recommend this B&B for a unique experience in a peaceful setting.
