The enchanting Château du Guilguiffin is a gorgeous stone manor accented by white shutters, steeply pitched slate roof, perky dormers, and a profusion of chimneys. A circular drive sweeps to the entrance facing onto a lawn enclosed by three circular walls interrupted by three 18th-century columns with unique Oriental motifs, which make this 1400-acre property a “historic site.” The elegant decor is outstanding, with beamed ceilings, mellow wood paneling, and heirloom antiques. In contrast to the formal parlor, the breakfast room is delightfully casual—a happy room with pretty yellow walls, blue doors, blue-and-white tiles, and a “walk-in” stone fireplace. Guests enjoy breakfast at one large table topped by a gay Provençal-print cloth. The bedrooms are exquisitely furnished with antiques accented by fabric-covered walls and color-coordinating draperies and bedspreads. The garden too is equally stunning. Early spring presents an unbelievable spectacle of 350,000 daffodils followed by thousands of azaleas and rhododendrons. Barbecues are available so that guests can grill fresh fish from the local market and enjoy dinner in the parklike grounds. Restaurants are just ten minutes away. Philippe Davy is an exceptional host and the château has been in his family for over 900 years. Stay at least a week to explore the best of Brittany.

Karen’s review is spot on. In three weeks of travel from Normandy to the Pyrenees this Spring, Guilguiffin tied for first place as our favorite accommodation. M & Mme Davy are wonderful hosts and our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.
Philippe was just going out in his car as we arrived, but he promptly turned around, greeted us warmly and quickly moved us into our lovely and comfortable room (the ’blue’) and introduced us to the other amenities including the chateau’...
